Diogo Bolota
C’est quoi cette danse?

Fimo Sculpture workshop
What is this dance? Is it a cake, an elephant octopus, a volcano sausage? The universe of Diogo Bolota awakens and expands our imagination.Framed in the solo exhibition of Diogo Bolota 'C’est quoi cette danse?', the fimo clay sculpture workshop begun with a guided tour of the exhibition by the artist, where children were invited to enter the creative universe of Diogo's dynamic and colourful shapes.

This was the beginning of an adventure that awakened the senses of the little ones, for the discovery of plasticity between two-dimensional paintings and the physical contact with the matter of fimo, allowing children to explore three-dimensional structures, taking as a reference an imaginary dance that the paintings present.
A colouring book was given out, which included an instruction manual for completing the fimo sculptures at home.

("Fimo" refers to a brand of polymer clay that is popular among crafters and artists. The clay is available in many colors and can be mixed to create custom shades. It's malleable and can be shaped, cut, and textured, allowing for a wide range of creative possibilities. After shaping, Fimo is typically baked to harden, resulting in a durable and permanent form. This makes it a popular choice for making detailed and long-lasting items.)

About the workshop…

Diogo Bolota surprised all of our little crew members with the scale, colours and organic shapes in his paintings. During the artist's guided tour of the exhibition, they understood that his universe is closely related to his childhood, where he built an imaginary circus as a fortress for his world, allowing him to still have full access to this rich inner dance today.
Further on, the experiments with fimo clay were a challenge to their fine motor skills and strength but mainly to the exercise of imagination that was at task: to create shapes from their inner universes taking on Bolota’s inspiration, commitment and freedom.
Congratulations to all the little creative minds and hands that participated! We had a great time and your sculptures are all brilliant! Thank you all!
Thank you again to the artist Diogo Bolota and coordinators Mariana Ramos and Francisca Valador.
