Luís Paulo Costa, Abrantes, 1968. Lives and works in Lisbon and S. José das Matas. FBAUL 1990 – 1996.

Artist residency at Krinzinger Projekte in Vienna, Austria, 2020.

The practice of painting is a central element in his work. His work occupies a space where visibility and invisibility are not stable or definitive; what is seen may ultimately be something else. Painting develops like a body, a skin that simultaneously hides and reveals itself. Concepts such as simulacrum, anticipation, disillusionment, and inaccessibility run throughout his work.

His paintings, often sculpturally incorporated, seem to present things in their silent reality, inaccessible to mediation, and therefore, his works always seem to construct a kind of necessary silence.

He has been exhibiting regularly since 1999, with the following recent solo exhibitions standing out:

January – December, National Society of Fine Arts, Lisbon (2023); All the Animals, Côa Museum, Vila Nova de Foz Côa (2023); Oranges, Carmona and Costa Foundation, Decorative Arts Space, Lisbon (2022); Two Coffees, MIAA, Iberian Museum of Art and Archaeology of Abrantes, Abrantes (2021).
