Yellow – hardly any other colour is as emotional, symbolic, multi-layered and ambivalent. Yellow stands for light, warmth and joie de vivre, for energy, insight and cohesion, as well as for envy, excess, warning and seduction. The colour yellow lies somewhere between cheerfulness and danger, splendour and poison, gold and sulphur.
Following editions with themes such as ‘Instructions for Action in Art,’ “Germany” and ‘Bauhaus 100,’ in this issue we want to give more space to content and use a colour to stimulate diverse approaches to artistic engagement – without foregoing the possibility of using the contradictions of a colour to reflect current world events.
With the edition ‘GELB / YELLOW,’ we would like to invite artists from various disciplines – whether painting, graphic art, photography, video or small-scale sculpture – to venture an experiment and find an open, individual approach to engaging with a colour.
