A matriz é um espaço vital, do qual algo é gerado, que se relaciona com uma ordem uterina presente na raiz dos elementos. A partir desta dimensão matricial, a exposição MATER aborda a matriz como uma força de tecedura entre práticas e objetos. Os artistas participantes dão continuidade à sua prática em cruzamento com o MIAA e o território de Abrantes, desenvolvendo um trabalho sobre as comunidades, o ambiente natural e construído, as manifestações plurais da história da arte ou a ativação de saberes populares. O ponto de partida da residência é a ideia alargada do conceito de matriz num cruzamento com a índole trans-temporal e operante das peças do Museu e a noção de lugar como construção cultural. A matriz emerge, portanto, aqui, como uma pulsão-semente para abordar várias possibilidades de criação e de transformação e, especialmente, para compreender um sentido telúrico tendo por base a cultura material e imaterial abrantina.

The matrix is a vital space from which something is generated, one that relates to a womb-like order present at the root of the elements. Drawing on this matrix-like dimension, the exhibition MATER explores the matrix as a force that weaves together practices and objects. The participating artists continue their practice in dialogue with the MIAA and the Abrantes region, developing work on communities, the natural and built environment, the diverse manifestations of art history, and the revitalisation of folk knowledge. The starting point for the residency is the expanded idea of the concept of the matrix, intersecting with the trans-temporal and operative nature of the Museum’s pieces and the notion of place as a cultural construct. The matrix thus emerges here as a seed-like impulse to explore various possibilities for creation and transformation and, in particular, to understand a telluric sense grounded in the tangible and intangible culture of Abrantes.
